Lenses & Mounts

The required focal length (zoom value) of a lens is critical to obtaining great photo-finish images. If the focal length is too high, then it will not be possible to zoom out enough to see the entire finish line. If the focal length is too small, then there will be a lot of dead space at the top and bottom of the image, causing a poor resolution for the objects of interest.

The best way to calculate the required focal length is to use the Lens Calculator.

• To find the recommended lens:

1. Go to LensCalculator.
2. Enter the required parameters in the Lens and Scar Rate Calculator (left).
   1. Camera Height
   2. Distance from the camera to the finish line
   3. Width of the finish line
   4. Max height objects of interest
3. Look at the Recommended Focal Length.
