Scoreboard Configuration

For each scoreboard FinishLynx should send data, a new scoreboard object needs to be created with the correct settings.

• To create a new scoreboard object:

1. Click Scoreboard | Options... from the Menu Bar.
2. Click the New button.
3. (optional) Enter a name for this scoreboard.
4. Click the Script: drop-down menu.
5. Choose the *.lss that corresponds to your display manufacturer.
6. Click the Serial Port: drop-down menu to select the COM or network port used. See Port Settings for details.
7. Set the Running Time: options.
8. Set the Results: options.
9. Click Ok.
10. Exit and restart FinishLynx.

• To display running time on a scoreboard:

1. Set the Running Time: to Normal
2. Optional:
   1. Set the Pause Time if using a photo eye to show split times, enter the number of seconds that you wish to leave the split time on the scoreboard before it returns to displaying the running time.
   2. Set the Offset time.
   3. Set Auto Break parameters.

• To configure an external photo eye:

1. Access the Camera Settings for an EtherLynx camera with a connected photo eye.
2. Click the Inputs Tab.
3. Click to select the port the photo eye is connected to on the Connection Box. External A and/or External B.
4. Set a global time offset.
5. Click Ok.

If you are using a photo eye to stop your display, set Time Offset to reflect the difference between the display clock reading and the times recorded by FinishLynx. This value is determined empirically. Have someone run through the finish line and compare the times on the clock with the time on the FinishLynx image. Values are in seconds and can be either negative (to subtract time from the clock display), or positive (to add time to the clock display).

• This can be done in one of two ways:

1. To set a global offset that will apply to all scoreboards, enter an offset value in the Inputs Tab (photo eye connected to Connection Box) or RadioLynx tab (photo eye connected to a RadioLynx transmitter) of the Camera Settings.
2. To set an offset for a specific scoreboard, enter an offset value time in the Scoreboard | Options...

Auto Break parameters can be set to have the running time pause or stop under certain conditions without any intervention from the operator.

• To set Auto Break parameters:

1. Check the Auto Break > Pause box to have the running time pause when a photo eye break is received.
2. Check the Auto Break > Finish box to have the running time stop when a photo eye break is received.
3. Check the Auto Break > if capturing (Pause or Finish) box when using Manual or Timed capture to have the running time pause or stop when a photo eye break is received and FinishLynx is capturing.

• To send results data to a scoreboard:

1. Set the Results: to Auto (data is sent to the scoreboard every time a change is made in the results field) or Manual (data is sent when the Refresh command is sent).
2. Optional:
   1. Check Options > Always send place to display the place field on the scoreboard before the event is saved to make it official.
   2. Check Options > Include first name to send first and last names of a competitor to the scoreboard when displaying results. If this option is not selected the FinishLynx software will send only a competitor's last name.
   3. Check Options > Affiliation abbreviation to send a competitor’s four letter affiliation abbreviation (as set in the database software) to the scoreboard when displaying results.

3. Set Paging: Size to reflect the number of available lines on your scoreboard (single line = 1, etc.).

4. Set Paging: Time to show the number of seconds that each page of the display will remain visible before scrolling to the next page.

There is a scoreboard results paging setting called Max. Type a number in this field to limit the number of results sent to the scoreboard.  This is useful for events with many competitors, when you want to display only the top finishers.

For example, if you have a race of 200 people and a scoreboard with 10 lines (page size of 10) and you enter 20 for Max, then you will only see alternating pages with places 1-10 and 11-20 on them. You will not see places 21-200.

FinishLynx gives priority to Running Time: over Results: data. Therefore, a scoreboard configured to display both Running Time and Results will show a time of 0.0 when the event is armed.

• To show data from the Results Board when an event is armed:

1. Click Scoreboard | Options... from the Menu Bar.
2. Click the Options sub-menu in the Running Time: section.
3. Select Send results if armed.

When you refresh the scoreboard, the paging is reset to the top of the results.

• To refresh the scoreboard:

1. From the main menu, click Scoreboard and then click Refresh All from the drop-down list.
2. Or use the Alt-E keyboard shortcut to Refresh All.

'One at a time' mode causes results to be sent to scoreboards, always one at a time and only when they change.

• To configure a scoreboard in 'One at a time' mode:

1. Set Results: Auto.
2. Paging checked.
3. Size = 1.
4. Time = 0.
